International Activities

Since its foundation in 1995, ZEvA has participated in various international projects and cooperations. In detail, we have been active in the following fields:

  • International consulting services (evaluation of the higher education system of Saudi Arabia, 2008; evaluation of Vietnamese higher education institutions)

  • Organization of international workshops (e.g. workshop hosted by the Technical University of Izhevsk, Russia, 2006)

  • Institutional evaluations (Konservatorium Wien Private University, Vienna/Austria, 2008/09; Anton Bruckner Private University for Music, Drama and Dance, Linz/Austria, 2007)

  • Accreditation of study programs at higher education institutions abroad (e.g. Technical University Izhevsk, Russia, 2009)

  • Active participation in international workshops (e.g. workshop at Brasov University, Romania, 2009)

  • In the context of a DAAD-funded DIES project (DIES: Dialogue on Innovative Higher Education Strategies) conducted by the University of Hanover and VIT University Vellore (South India), ZEvA was invited to support VIT in accrediting its International Relations Office (IRO) and improving the quality of its work. To this end, Henning Schäfer, head of ZEvA’s program accreditation department, spent one week in Vellore in November 2009. Among other things, he taught a 2-day workshop on “Quality Assurance, Accreditation and International Relations Offices”, in which first steps towards developing standards and procedures for the accreditation of IROs were outlined.

Besides these activities, ZEvA is a member of European associations like ENQA (European Association for Quality Assurance in Higher Education) and EQAR (European Quality Assurance Register for Higher Education). In May 2002, ZEvA acted as a founding member of the "European Institute for Quality Assurance (EIQA)" along with 28 universities and universities of applied sciences. Meanwhile, EIQA counts more than 40 higher education institutions as well as two associations and societies among its members. It is the prime objective of EIQA to ensure quality assurance in teaching and learning at higher education institutions and to promote the international recognition of tertiary education standards.

At the occasion of a meeting of the European Consortium for Accreditation (ECA) in Den Haag on 9 December 2009, Prof Rainer Künzel, Academic Director of ZEvA, presented a speech on "Changes in Quality Assurance: the Case of Germany".
